1963 van Nievelt Goudriaan & Co.,
I joined van Nievelt Goudriaan in the beginning of 1966, right after I finished my tour of duty of 24 month in the army. It always had been my dream see the world. My father past away at a young age of 48 during my army time so our plans to possibly work together stopped right there. I decided to pursue my old dream.
To figure out whether I would really liked this kind of live my mother suggested I take a trip first and see if I liked it. My first trip overseas and for the first time away from home for a undefined time period and unknown destinations. I loved it and as soon as I came back I went to school for 2 years to get educated as marine engineer.
Well that's what I liked, the unknown!. The whole crew was flown in with a charter-plane from Amsterdam to Copenhagen, Denmark with Martin Air
From wiper to Captain, we all flew on the same plane to our destination in Kopemhagen to board the Sirrah.
The Sirrah was a 30 thousand ton tanker sailing all over the world wherever we had cargo.
Our first trip went to Curacao. About 3 weeks later and 20 degrees warmer we arrived at Willemstad, past the famous "vlotbrug" and up to the inner h
harbor for loading heavy crude destined for Boston.
