In 1965, the first Israeli constructed ship, the ESTHER, was built in Haifa and delivered to Zim.
ZIM Line
The ZIM line was represented by Dammers van der Heijde in Rotterdam. Working for an Israeli company was a big step for me. The crew was mostly from Israel and luckily English was standard spoken although Hebrew was the mother language.
The chief engineer was Dutch, second engineer Jewish and the third also Dutch. The food was the most horrible thing I had to endure and it took some considerable time to get used to what they called Mediterranean food, which was fried and soaked in oil.
I signed on the MV Esther, a lovely little freighter carrying a diverse cargo from ports in Sweden, Netherlands, Belgium, France, Spain to Malta, Cyprus and home-base Haifa or Ashdod.
After 13 month on the Esther I thought it was enough, I quite and went to school for my next license.

Nazareth
The Holy City of Nazareth is the childhood home of Jesus, as described in the New Testament. A center of Christian faith and pilgrimage.
Nazareth is located in the hills in the center of the Galilee in Northern Israel. The modern city of Nazareth was built over the old village, and few archaeological remains are left from the times of Jesus.
Nazareth is today a big city, populated by Christians and Muslims (in lower Nazareth) and Jews (in Upper Nazareth, called Nazareth-Ill it). It less than one hour drive east of Haifa. The older section near the Churches is crowded with small shops and narrow alleys. The City grew around this center towards the hills around, with more Arab villages around the city that are practically connected to the City.
